ISABELLE NÉGRIER PRESENTS THE REPORT OF THE CONCLAVE ON COMPETITIVENESS TO MARIO DRAGHI AT COLLEGE DE FRANCE.

HOW TO INVEST IN EUROPE FOR OUR SOVEREIGNTY
EuropaNova engages in dialogue with Mario Draghi and Emmanuel Macron on the future of European competitiveness, on November 13, 2024, at the College de France.
Today, Guillaume Klossa, President of EuropaNova, and Isabelle Négrier, General Director, participated in a dialogue with President Emmanuel Macron and numerous experts, focused on the theme of « The Future of European Competitiveness », alongside Mario Draghi, former Prime Minister of Italy and author of the Draghi Report, whose main recommendations are:
1. Innovate and close the technological gap
2. Have a common plan for decarbonization and competitiveness
3. Strengthen security and reduce dependencies
This was also an opportunity for Isabelle Négrier, General Director, to present the 2024 Conclave Report to Mario Draghi, which aligns with the same call for significant investments in disruptive research and innovation, particularly in the defense sector. The report also emphasizes the importance of promoting, at the highest European level, the development of a European Business Law Code, designed to support entrepreneurship in Europe. Among the 17 recommendations in this report, here are the key ones related to the issues discussed:
- 6: Promote a public policy for a scientific, technological, and industrial continuum
- 7: Develop a digital platform strategy to unlock our potential in artificial intelligence and quantum
- 8: Use European R&D to fight climate change
- 9: Become a leader in health and provide high-quality care for all
- 10: Adopt an inclusive method to achieve climate goals by 2040 and prepare for those of 2040-2050
- 11: Protect and promote the rights, social protection, and well-being of European citizens
- 12: Make the necessary investments and transfers for the well-being of European societies
- 13: Invest our money where our priorities lie
EuropaNova advocates for a sovereign and autonomous Europe, promoting the pooling of European resources, both public and private. This initiative embodies our vision of a « strong and united European power », aiming to relaunch the European economic society by involving the entire civil society.
« We have no choice but to be more united » , emphasized Emmanuel Macron, stressing the need to strengthen the capital markets to support investment in the economy, a crucial issue for the future of our competitiveness. Philippe Aghion added: « We need a capital market… not just banking finance. » It is also important to note that Europeans save three times more than Americans, but invest much less. As Mario Draghi points out: « We save three times more than the Americans, but this savings is not directed towards businesses, unlike in the U.S. »
In 2024, EuropaNova will continue its efforts to defend a strong, united, and competitive Europe.
